There are lots of folks out there talking about the possibility of an Amazon Android Tablet. Do they really want a competing device to their Kindle? Apparently so!
Amazon has not come out and officially admitted to the plans to create such a device, but it does seem to be on the horizon. Consider this – when asked about that recently, the CEO of Amazon told reporters to stay tuned. That is the equivalent of saying it is coming soon. It is certainly not a denial, and there are too many pieces of information floating out there not to believe that something is going on.
Not to mention the fact that Amazon recently came out with their version of an app store for the Android operating system. That almost had to be a sign that they were moving in this direction, not to mention the fact that you can already purchase cell phone service though Amazon Wireless.
But what would an Amazon-related Android tablet look like? What would the specs be? For starters, I am sure they would have it optimized for the Kindle app, and I also think they will try to really differentiate it from the Kindle, as they really are different devices anyway.
So what would such a tablet look like? According to the rumors floating out there, they are considering two different sizes of tablets – one that is 7 inches and one that is 10 inches. The Amazon Android tablet may also have a dual color and black and white display, which I am guessing has something to do with reading books (maybe they are not worried about hurting Kindle sales after all?).
As a huge Amazon fan, I am excited about this, and I am betting that whatever they come up with will be awesome. It will be interesting to see if they partner with their Amazon Wireless partners to offer some type of 3G service on these as well. We will keep you updated on anything we hear about it! Right now the estimates are that they might have a tablet out by holiday shopping season this year.
